Procreate, the popular digital art creation app, offers a fascinating Time-Lapse Video feature that allows you to record your entire artistic journey and share it with the world. Whether you want to showcase your creative process or simply create engaging content, mastering this feature can be a game-changer. In this guide, we'll walk you through the ins and outs of creating, customizing, and sharing Time-Lapse videos in Procreate.
Creating a Time-Lapse Video
Default Settings
Time-Lapse video is enabled by default when you create a new canvas in Procreate. It records your progress at 1080p resolution on the Good Quality setting. These settings cannot be changed during your project, so make sure to adjust them before you begin if needed.
Custom Settings
For more control, you can create a custom canvas with tweaked Time-Lapse settings. From the Gallery, tap the + button, go to New Canvas, and select Time-lapse settings. You can adjust the resolution, and recording quality, and enable HEVC for advanced motion graphics.
Playing, Pausing, and Sharing
Replay
To review your Time-Lapse video within Procreate, tap Actions > Video > Time-lapse Replay. It plays back your video at 30 frames per second on a loop, allowing you to focus on details, pinch-zoom, and move around the canvas.
Pausing
You can pause your recording to create an edited Time-Lapse video. Toggle Time-lapse Recording off in Actions > Video and choose whether to purge existing video (cannot be undone) or pause and edit the recording later.
Export
Sharing your Time-Lapse recordings is a great way to showcase your techniques. Tap Actions > Video > Export Time-lapse video and choose between Full length or 30 Seconds. You can export your video to any app connected to the iOS Files interface.
Pro Tip
Consider using video editing apps to further enhance your Time-Lapse videos with music and combine them to create a compelling art portfolio.
Private Layers in Time-Lapse Videos
Procreate allows you to insert a private layer that won't appear in your Time-Lapse video. This feature is perfect for obscuring reference images or content not meant for the final artwork. Private Layers function like regular layers but remain invisible in exported Time-Lapse videos.
Disabling Time-Lapse
While the Time-Lapse video is on by default, you can pause it for the current canvas by toggling Time-Lapse Recording in Actions. To disable Time-Lapse across all documents, go to Help > Advanced Settings. Remember that once disabled, Time-Lapse won't record on any new canvases, and you cannot retrieve recordings for disabled documents.
Procreate's Time-Lapse Video feature is a powerful tool for sharing your artistic journey and engaging with your audience. Experiment with different settings, create captivating videos and elevate your digital artistry. Happy creating!
