Did you know you can use Photoshop .abr brushes in DesignScape?

We will be using a watercolor brush set here but you can use any Photoshop brushes. We have a variety to choose from here.

Step 1 - Add Photoshop Brushes in DesignScape

Let’s begin by creating a new project. We have already downloaded and unzipped our brush file to where we can easily locate it.

In DesignScape, to add Photoshop brushes, we will use the drag and drop method. Go to where you placed your brush folder, then click + drag the .abr file into DesignScape.

A notification will pop up asking if you want the brushes to be loaded the next time you use DesignScape. Click on Ok and DesignScape will then say “Brush Added”.

Step 2 - Use Photoshop Brushes in DesignScape

First, we are going to select the color before selecting the Brush Tool. On the left toolbar, beneath the Zoom tool, is the Color Picker tool. Click on the top most square to open the Color Picker Panel. You can change the shade of the selected color or the color from the side bar.

Now, you can access the Brush Panel a few ways. On the left toolbar, click on the Brush Tool (B). At the top left toolbar, click on the drop down Brush Menu. This is a quick way to access your brushes as well as adjust the size, rotation and hardness.

You will see a circle with crosshairs. The two smaller circles adjust the width/height of the brush while the triangle adjusts rotation. There is an arrow on the right side that opens a menu for loading, exporting, deleting, renaming and more.

You can also click on the Brush icon on the right side panel to open the options. If you don’t see the icon, go to Window > Brush and make sure the tool has a tick next to it. This panel gives you more advanced choices when editing the brush.

In the example below, we decreased the brush size. We chose to tick the boxes for Tip Dynamics, Scatter and Color Dynamics. With the changes, we could preview the brush at the bottom of the Brush Panel.
