How to Edit SVG Files in Cricut Design Space: Remove Objects and Add Text

Customizing SVG files in Cricut Design Space is a great way to make personalized projects. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of opening an SVG file, removing unwanted objects, and adding your own text to create your unique designs.

Steps to Open an SVG File in Cricut Design Space:

1. Open Cricut Design Space:

   - Launch the Cricut Design Space software on your computer or mobile device.

2. Upload the SVG File:

   - On the Design Space home screen, click the Upload button on the left-hand menu.

   - Select Upload Image, then click Browse to locate your SVG file on your computer.

   - Once you've selected your file, click Open and then Upload to bring it into your Design Space library.

3. Add the SVG to the Canvas:

   - After the SVG file is uploaded, select it from your Recent Uploads and click Add to Canvas to open it on your design workspace.

Steps to Remove Unwanted Objects:

1. Ungroup the SVG Elements:

   - Click on the SVG file on your canvas to select it.

   - In the top menu, click Ungroup. This will break apart the elements of the SVG into individual pieces, allowing you to edit or remove parts of the design.

2. Select and Delete Unwanted Objects:

   - Click on any unwanted objects within the design to select them.

   - Once selected, press Delete on your keyboard, or right-click and select Delete from the dropdown menu.

   - Repeat this step for each object you wish to remove.

Steps to Add Your Own Text:

1. Create a Text Box:

   - On the left-hand side toolbar, click the Text button to create a text box.

   - Type your desired text into the box that appears on the canvas.

2. Format Your Text:

   - With the text selected, use the toolbar at the top to change the font, size, alignment, and other formatting options.

   - You can resize or reposition the text by clicking and dragging the edges of the text box or using the size controls at the top of the canvas.

3. Position Your Text on the Design:

   - Drag your text to the desired location on your design. You can rotate or adjust its placement to fit your project.

4. Attach or Weld Text (Optional):

   - If your text overlaps or you want it to cut as one single piece, you may want to use the Weld feature. Select all the objects (including the text), then click Weld in the bottom right corner.

   - Alternatively, use Attach to keep the elements in place but not combine them into one object.

Save Your Design:

Once you're happy with your customized design, click Save to keep your project in your Design Space account for future use, or proceed to Make It to cut it with your Cricut machine.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to upload an SVG file, remove any unnecessary elements, and add your own personalized text to your project in Cricut Design Space!
