Can I upload sublimation files to Cricut Design Space

Modified on Tue, 22 Oct at 2:08 AM

Issue: I've found some sublimation files I would like to use with Cricut Design Space. Will they work?

Resolution:

Yes, you can upload sublimation files, such as PNG or JPEG images, into Cricut Design Space. While Cricut machines don't perform sublimation printing directly, you can utilize the Print Then Cut feature to aid in the sublimation process. Here's how to do it:

How to Upload Sublimation Files to Cricut Design Space

  1. Open Cricut Design Space:

    • Launch the Cricut Design Space application on your device.
  2. Start a New Project:

    • Click on New Project to open a blank canvas.
  3. Upload Your Image:

    • Click the Upload button on the left-hand menu.
    • Select Upload Image, then click Browse to locate your sublimation file (PNG or JPEG) on your computer.
    • Choose the file and click Open.
  4. Select Image Type:

    • Choose Complex to preserve the detailed features of your image.
    • Click Continue.
  5. Remove Background (If Necessary):

    • If your image has a background, use the Background Remover tool to eliminate it, leaving only the desired design.
    • Click Apply & Continue.
  6. Choose Upload Type:

    • Select Print Then Cut Image. This option allows you to print the image and then cut it out using your Cricut machine.
    • Click Upload.
  7. Add Image to Canvas:

    • Once uploaded, select the image and click Add to Canvas.
    • Resize and position the image as needed for your project.
  8. Prepare for Print Then Cut:

    • Ensure your design fits within the Print Then Cut size limitations. For most Cricut machines, the maximum design size is 9.25" x 6.75".
    • Click Make It.
      .
  9. Print the Design:

    • Follow the on-screen prompts to print your design using your home printer.
    • Note: Cricut Design Space will add registration marks to the printout to assist with accurate cutting.
  10. Cut the Design:

    • After printing, place the paper on your Cricut mat and load it into the machine.
    • The Cricut will read the registration marks and cut around your design precisely.

Important Considerations

  • Sublimation Printing: While Cricut machines can assist in cutting sublimation designs, they do not perform sublimation printing directly. You'll need a separate sublimation printer to print your designs before using the Cricut to cut them out.

  • Material Compatibility: Ensure you're using materials compatible with both sublimation printing and your Cricut machine.
