Text Not Displaying Properly in Glowforge

Issue: Text Not Showing in Glowforge

If you've uploaded a design file to the Glowforge App and received an alert stating "We can't process text (yet!)," it indicates that the text within your design file cannot be processed by the app's current font capabilities. Consequently, the text may have been removed from your design. This situation arises because the Glowforge App uses a different set of fonts compared to your design software.

Solution: Converting Text to Shapes

The solution to this issue involves converting your text into shapes that can have either a stroke or a fill. By following these steps, you'll ensure that your text displays correctly in the Glowforge App:

1. Open Your Design File in Your Design Software:
Begin by opening your design file in the software you used to create it.

2. Convert Your Text:
Perform the necessary conversion of your text. Please note that once this conversion is done, you won't be able to edit the text further. Depending on your design software, follow the relevant steps below:

   - In Inkscape:

     1. Select all the text within your design.

     2. Click and drag inside your text box to highlight all the text.

     3. Navigate to the "Path" menu and select "Object to Path."

   - In Adobe Illustrator:

     1. Highlight the text you want to convert.

     2. Go to the "Type" menu and choose "Create Outlines."

3. Assign a Fill or Stroke to Your Text:
The design concept in your design software consists of two main components: a stroke (an outline) and a fill (a solid shape). When you upload your design to the Glowforge App, strokes are interpreted as cuts, while fills become engraves. Follow these instructions:

For Engraving:

     1. Select the converted text.

     2. Set a color for the fill.

     3. Choose "none" for the stroke.

For Cutting:

     1. Highlight the converted text.

     2. Set a color for the stroke.

     3. Choose "none" for the fill.

4. Save and Re-upload Your File:
After making the necessary adjustments to your design, save it in SVG format. Then, follow these steps:

   1. Save your updated design as an SVG file.

   2. Access the Glowforge App at app.glowforge.com.

   3. Upload your newly saved SVG file.

By following these steps, you can successfully convert your text into shapes that are compatible with the Glowforge App's font capabilities. This will ensure that your text displays correctly when using your Glowforge machine for engraving or cutting.
